This is another picture I took while waiting. Here we can admire the resistance found in an incandescent light bulb. As an essential part of the circuit, the light bulb prevents it from short-circuiting, and gives off heat and light as a by-product. While they are not very efficient, incandescent light bulbs are simple and excellent examples of physics at work. Current runs through the tungsten filament and causes it to glow brightly. A multimeter can measure the resistance of the bulb, the voltage of the power source, and the current running through the circuit. Other lights were hung around the ceiling, and they would be linked in parallel so that if one bulb went out, others could continue to provide light.
