Static Electricity

So I'm a little behind in my blogs again, but I'm catching up this weekend. I had dinner with my family at a 3660, a restaurant in Kaimuki. While waiting for everyone else to get there, I made some time to admire all of the physics at work around me.  For example, I took this picture:

I noticed that, if there was a dangerous lightening storm, I could easily find protection. I would not stand under the tree, because its height would make it very attractive as a target.  Even though the truck is made out of metal, I would be safe inside of the cab.  This is not because of the rubber tires, even though it's an insulator, lightening would have no trouble going through rubber. The metal framework acts as an excellent conductor, thereby keeping any electricity away from my body, the relatively high resistance of which being a deterrent.
